About

The Rocky Point Tourism & Visitor Assistance office is not meant to replace the Office of Conventions and Visitors. That organization (OCV) is geared to promoting conventions and events on behalf of the hotel industry. Rather, the TVA is intended to provide tourism assistance and information on a broader scale. While the former is a government agency, the latter is in fact, supported by the business community and the private sector.

Our efforts are certainly being supported by municipal and police authorities, as well as by the OCV and other civic organizations here. As with the OCV, at our office you will find maps and general information about our city. Brochures on what to do, etc. We will also have consumer-related services such as a referral system for member businesses. Gone are the days of not knowing whether a mechanic or plumber are reputable, for example.

Consumers with complaints will now have recourse against bad business practices as well as police abuse, should it occur.

A 15-member advisory committee will meet monthly to oversee member issues and make determinations about member standing. City government and
local police will be represented on the advisory committee, to ensure cooperation.

For visitors to Rocky Point there will now be free 24-hour assistance in the event of an emergency. Within half an hour of receiving a call, a bilingual volunteer will come out to assist with whatever we can to make the process less confusing and hopefully less frustrating for visitors.

The primary goal, of course is to give travelers a more accurate portrait of what this lovely city is like, and hopefully bring more visitors here. Part of the plan is to provide more articles and information of a
positive nature for as many publications as possible. There will be a Rocky Point Information Center in cities throughout North America, beginning with Laguna Beach, Las Vegas, Cottonwood, Phoenix, Tucson, and Ciudad Juarez. We are currently working on one in Calgary.

We are hoping to attract more diverse events here, as well as to travel to expos in the States to promote this city.

The answer to your question is that yes, a tourist in Penasco can probably get the same brochures here that he can at the OCV, but here he can also use the internet, make international calls, get translations, and request referrals to member businesses…all free of charge.

I hope this answers your questions. My contact information is listed below. The new office number in Mexico is  638-388-8207. We don’t yet have our U.S. line connected. Our website will be www.tourismrockypoint.com although it is not yet ready.

I appreciate your interest and am hoping you might also take the time to make suggestions as to how we might bring more attention to Puerto Penasco.
